A moment of calm along the road

Chatters!

There has been much furor over the past few weeks. Too much! I say we have a calm thread, just for a little. Therefore, I want to hear your stories: What has been the most interesting/fun/memorable experience you've had in Haven & Hearth, so far?

I will give you mine, as a start. In W11, with some friends of little ability and before anyone had really figured the oceans out all that well, I remember one such courageous friend trying to traverse the high seas on his little dugout. I think, but I am not sure, that it displayed a warning message to him, that the boat would take damage in deep water. Intrepidly, he thought aloud to take it in there just for a bit, just to check how long it takes to get destroyed.
As anyone who has tried this knows, the answer is "instantly". The mad effort we spent on trying to recover his corpse for the next few hours, littering the ocean with a few more naked corpses, was a real magical moment. That's been the sort of thing I've been chasing in this game ever since, I think, that sense of discovery and true, free interaction with the world and its people (even if those interactions may not have been the wisest). What a wonderful game it was! (and still, somewhat, is).

Now, tell me yours! I have the ears to hear you out.

I don't think World 8 Haven was the "peak experience." The game back then was far worse than it is now. But there was absolutely a sense of discovery in "Hafen" releasing, and for the first time since the very early days not having bots or optimized gameplay paths available. It was more or less untread territory, heavily flavored and inspired by its predecessor, but something new.

Using the extremely basic Ender's client that existed back in 2015, with just Skype to coordinate, we were still able to forge a community that made bonds (with support from pre-existing groups like Great Houses and the "Odditown / Lord of Shadows/ Hogwarts" guys) that last until today. I still remember how nobody expected a bunch of newb LARPers to be able to do *anything* whatsoever in PvP, and when we started to kill off the old boogiemen at the time (Ainran, back when they were considered a faction), it was sort of jaw dropping. The funniest shit ever was when me, Bo Dole, and a couple of our guys were taking a road we constructed to reach Ainran to raid their hinterlands. Apparently, Jordan Coles, BMJClark, and a couple of his other guys, had the exact same idea. We literally met at a bend in the road, randomly. I teleported in first, as I was leading our group. The two closest Ainran guys seemed just fucking dumbfounded, they just stood there, even though I am certain they had me memorized. I started to attack them, and hell broke loose. My guys started to teleport in, and we quickly took the offensive. One of them ran into the water and started trying to throw his shit away when it was clear we were winning, probably like many newbs they had ganked in the past (we started to call them Ainranaway after this.) Never have I left so many murder scents as World 8, although our World 9 war probably claimed more bodies, more kills were our allies.

I wasn't sure we were ever going to be able to reclaim that, because the game started to become more botted and more "solved." I am so fucking happy I decided to try playing again in W14. The game may not be as fresh, but the developers have done a great job at improving balance and reducing the advantage of botting in the early game. I enjoyed it, and I met a few people that got me to live in WB in W15. We managed to make the newb army work in W15 with Whatever Bay, yet again. We defended ourselves, and when war come to our door seeking to knock down our city, we beat a mega-coalition of Austin's Oppidia/Snail/London/Felix's Cats/Ozzy and others... again with the help of a bunch of friends... that was so satisfying. It by far topped our victorious siege defense in W9 just in terms of pure fun. I'm looking forward to W16 and beyond, more than ever. I really hope that the game keeps on giving these good memories, fun times, and good company.
