w8 had end-of-the-world event where player-made "Altar of Ruin" would be the "cause" for the wipe. This had the PvP aspect of being able to usurp the Hearthling on the altar if you had stronger stats.

Incentive for fighting over that was - a plan to make a Statue commemorating whoever was channeling on top of the Altar when server went down. Part of the event was to reduce wall soak to 0, so the Altar couldn't be defended. What could possibly go wrong?

Well, they didn't reduce the soak from buildings, so one faction built Great Halls around their Altar. Only one Altar could exist at a time, and you needed to physically access it to usurp the person on top of it.

In the end, Jorb ended up simply not making the Statue. End-of-the-world events with reduced wall soak and Trolls roaming the Overworld are still a thing. One lost opportunity would've been to make a Statue that, when inspected - describes how the identity of the Hearthling, it was based on, is obscured by excessively large Great Hall ornaments.

I say the Trolls are the real creations of god, and the hearthlings are the demonspawns that the evil snake has created.
The trolls have found themselves hiding away from the grasp of the tiny and insignificant infidels, who dare to prove themselves worthy of their title as flayers of everything that breathes and moves. The trolls, originally white like a scandinavian fellow, has become green due to scurvy and other skin related deficiencies from the absence of sunlight. They have began photosynthesizing from the glowing rocks within the caves they inhabit, as they cannot eat minerals.
The hearthlings, though weak and frail as a glass pane, have nonetheless possess the insatiable hunger for conquest. They have even forced the dryads from protecting their homes and have become mindless, running aimlessly in the wild, no longer fighting for their homes.
The rest of the beastfolk have then decided to rise up against the evil hearthlings - except for the sly fox and the lesser beasts, who cannot fight back.
This is the story of Haven and Hearth.
