Status of the game?

So. I get bored/tired/ insert what you like of this game and then I go away and play other games. After a while I come back and lurk on the forums and see if anything sparks in me.

It kinda looks like everyone thinks this is finally the end.

Is it? and if so, why do you think that?

I wonder which is worse, direct “it’s over” naysaying from the likes of Myself, or false hope spread as above?

I mean, even ignoring how much more likely a Steam release is to be an admission of defeat by the developers; heralded by halfhearted insistence that their bloated and directionless development efforts are “Complete” despite all evidence that they’ve simply lost the spark - do you think this member of club robben is genuinely so clueless, does he buy into this mythical revitalization via steam release he champions? Or is this merely a method of ironic trolling one layer deeper; is this hype spread to raise expectations and bathe in the inevitable disappointment?

Either way at least I’m honest. The game is dying, limping ever more feebly, and no longer towards any particular destination besides whichever point it will happen to drop dead.

He spreads fake news to make other people push devs into releasing to steam. I think it would be better for them to release source code and let other people make open source mmo haven. This way they will always be able to contribute as grandfathers but keep their work thriving.

This is true, and it's fair to draw attention to this. While I think steam release is coming, and I also think devs are mostly checked out and have been for a while. My guess has been that Jorb had a kid or kids, on top of his full time job. Devs used to live and breath the game, and were almost fixtures in the community, now months sometimes go by before they even visit the forum much less participate.

I don't anticipate a return to the days where Haven received mostly weekly updates, unless we get astronomically lucky and the game is so successful on steam that Jorb and Loftar make a life decision to rely on it for income.

But I don't think HnH not receiving regular content updates necessarily spells the end of Haven either. If it has a middling steam release, and becomes a maintenance project with occasional updates, that'll just be the new normal.
