Has anyone mapped the first quality node drift?

Postby SoggyLithe » Thu Nov 07, 2024 6:11 pm

I don't remember if world start was before the first new moon but if it was I'm curious about:

☐ Is it just a translation of the noise map?
☑ How far does the node drift each cycle if so?
☐ Do all nodes drift the same direction or is it independent per resource/category?

☐ If the map doesn't just translate across the world map is it just stepping forward for some noise function over time? (This could mean good nodes just disappear completely instead of moving away)
☐ Is it both drifting and changing the node over time?

Seems like water+herbs will be the easiest way to track it next new moon but thought someone might already be able to answer some of these questions.

How far does the node drift each cycle if so?

Looks like for this cycle plant nodes drifted about 1.5 tiles West and 1 tile North

The same distance+direction were definitely wrong for bugs so that's still up in the air

Im definitely biased but I feel like this change is more punishing for casool/hermits because it takes alot of time to find quality nodes, so not sure I can be bothered to keep up re-find, so I'm more likely to drift behind groups for whom is much easier as can share locations. So will likely fall even further behind than usual quality wise.

I'm not a fan of this change (for herbs, it's a good one for animals) but you're not new to the game , you should know by now the game isnt developped to please the casuals and Im glad they dont.

The quality drift has definitely spurred me to go talk with the neighbors more than usual.

Knowing the dev's a bit I'm pretty sure its independent per node type. (if its not yet ... it will be) ... that's not to say that all node-types will do this new node shifting.
And ... I doubt the direction will also be the same with every shift. (if it would, it would be totally predictable, which defeats the whole point of node shifting in the first place)

Damn, why devs hare hermits so much? I bet they thought about adding this to clay too but quickly noticed this would hurt big factions, the ones that lay down huge claims on any bigger than 50q clay and decided against.

Q of herbs should not only stay in the same place as also increase over time.
