For a game that I thought was very niche it is doing well

I thought it would have mixed reviews, barely over 200 on steam and would need to scroll at least 5 times to see more on mmorpg new and trending, but still the game has possitive reviews, numbers go over 400 on stean after all of this time and is still on "second " page (when clicking to see more) on new and trending for mmorpgs. So yea, it isn't as niche as I thought then or people are way more open to niche, survival, experimental, indie and in early access works as steam is flooded with them over the past years. So I guess it is a good job that devs waited, because if the game was released in 2022 or 2020 on steam it might have been trashed on no?

Aye, this game id absolute gem with only 1 flaw (toxic community - but that is like 1% of playerbase)

Personally I find something like this to be the biggest flaw:

I agree it's hard to deal with "tryhard griefers" - but it's even harder when game doesn't explain that you should build a Palisade. Then throws two different types of gates at you with little explanation on which one to build.

The game is horrifically niche, but it's basically the only good game in its niche. Most of its population are longterm players. Steam release only added 100 to the 1700 players we had last world (We had a community run playercount graph that seems to be down for a couple weeks now that tracked this).

As a result steam players are kind of meaningless in a sense. It's just the old community who've switched what platform they're using. The playerbase dips heavily after the first 2 months of a world, but they always come back for the next one.

What steam means for me is more outreach to find people to add to the old gaurd. 99% of steam players will leave, but we might be able to add that 1% to the old gaurd. It took this game 15 years to get 1700 players and i am hoping we see a more consistent growth at the start of each world just because the game is easier to find now.

Without going into "Java bad" -tangent with full "armchair coder" energy, I should probably point out that game running on Java has been a significant hindrance on people trying the game. "I can't run the game" -threads used to be regular occurrence, with enough variance that you couldn't exactly make a single FAQ aside from relatively vague "get specific Java and update your drivers." At one point, the best boilerplate response I could come up with was actually "uninstall all Java, download Kami, check the option to use on-board JDK."

I haven't tried any of the Steam clients myself, but I'm pretty sure they make game so much easier to run.

tbh I was playing this other game (beyond all reason) which is full of angry drama, gay little cliques, over moderation and just general negative vibes

haven is like oasis from that bs, ppl dont take shit too serious here, its all just memes and trolling, forum is mostly crying/whining but discord is good
