Cave ins on cave surface tiles?

Postby banok » Tue Apr 06, 2021 3:05 pm

I really thought the surface tiles of caves could not cause cave ins, thats how I remember it being. And I mean how else are you supposed to get starting mining since supports require metal.

And yet I have had 2 cave ins on surface tiles out of only like 8 tiles mined. Am I doing something wrong? Cause the wounds whilst not too hard to deal with are demotivating to play.

Not doing anything wrong, you were just incorrect about those tiles causing cave-ins. They always have, you just got lucky before.

Prospecting or accepting that you might take some wounds as the price of finding metal. It doesn't have to be risk-free or easy.

the outer tiles always had a risk of causing cave ins. That's something you simply have to deal with.

well shiiit, my memory is bad I guess. I do think it would make sense if this was changed so you can mine safe until you see dust. I just wanna play minesweeper, but in the game minesweeper you start with clear tiles, it would be 0 fun without that dont ya think?

edit: it occurred to me that maybe you dont always start with clear spot in minesweeper but it has been 15+ years.

i.e. abuse an alt to take the concussions for you until you've found a proper spot.

The only safe way to start is a mine hole, it is considered a mine support.

This. Anything else is a "mine at your own risk".

Look for the natural mine supports, too. Just remember the Venn diagram of "naturally occurring" of A and "naturally occurring" of B never intersects in video games.
