Tips to raise the quality of farming produce?

Postby katiewhite » Thu Apr 24, 2025 11:08 am

Hello,
I found that the progress of farming produce/seeds is painfully slow for me and I'm not quite sure how the system works. I want to increase the quality of farming produce/seeds. Any tips?
How can I find high Ql natural resources (soil, clay etc) than digging very visible potholes on the map?
Thanks in advance!

progress is slow, this is true.
but going out and looking for high Q nodes of wild windsown weeds can help with higher Q starter seeds.

also go around abandoned claims and harvest old crops can assist as well.
make sure you do so with a char with high farming and/or survival for finding/harvesting the higher Q seeds

Each harvest has a random chance of quality to progress, regress or stay the same. Crops planted on the same mp grid (use custom clients to see grids) within some shared time window (6 hours, if not mistaking) will always have the same change to quality. Some crops (e.g. carrots) can be harvested before their final growth stage having the same random change to quality.
Knowing this one can develop a strategy:
* have dedicated small plots to increase quality but not getting yourself burn out and quit
* have several such plots on several map grids
* for each crop of a plot: split into at least three sub-plots and re-plant each of them at least 6-hours apart
* check your plots as often as possible (though, unless you're botting, you would always stay behind)

Or to summarize: grind, grind and grind some more. Unless you're botting.

But thanks to the "Catch-up" mechanics, you can grind another way: raise your farming skill (currently up to 250+(?) or you'd miss out on the currently highest Q) as well as PER*EXP and spend your day looking for WWWs and drying them on a herbalist table (table quality doesn't matter). This is the way majority of people get the high Q crops without botting.

No point in looking for a soil as at this stage it would be far behind the Mulch Q made from high Q crops in compost bins.

Other high Q resources like clay or sand are probably all claimed by now. But yeah, only by going and looking for them. Don't bother thinking about holes in the ground. Unless it's on someone's claim, nobody cares.

Primarily raise your farming skill, crop q is basically an average of seed q and farming skill and will essentially be capped by farming skill. A farming skill of 100 and q50 seeds will eventually give q100 crops, but farming of 100 with q180 seeds will eventually produce q100 crops also. Everything interacts. Also having bee hives will speed crop growth so q progresses more quickly, though bees do not affect grains or trees (odd since in real life bees pollinate flowering trees). Make a suit of farming gear with farm gildings on each piece, this will help when planting (harvesting isn't affected by farm skill).

I believe every planting windows has the possibility between -2 and +5. However I have read that if you are planting the highest Q crop in an area (have no idea how big the area is) the chance to go up drops to +2. But this may only apply to the highest q crop in the world.

I also thought I read something regarding some hidden crop mechanics based on where the seeds from the original wild crop where taken. As in some seeds of the same type grow faster or slower depending on the node of wild plant they originated from or something that.

I have noticed that some times some I will get a high q of crop while harvesting randomly and I swear I planted it all at the same time with the same Q seed, but I might just be crazy

Iirc in theory it should be in relation to the world highest quality of that crop. In practice idk if anyone actually tested it but that's what i remember reading in the patchnotes.

My testing showed it was actually based on the highest crop on your continent. It thoroughly ruined my desire to be a edge of the world but with best crops hermit.

Was pretty funny when I could tell that someone had moved into the continent from the mainland because my crop qualities started jumping.

now the easiest way is
1. raise exploration to see all wild herbs,
2. pump everything else into farming,
3. make clothes, even from grass or nettles, the main thing is to fill all the slots
4. gild this clothes with earrings or leaves from a tree
5. find the largest village and run around it at a distance of 1-4 screens, collecting only wild herbs
6. dry them on dryers or in garden tables.

this is if there are no abandoned camps with high-quality seeds.
seeds can be found in barrels, in cabinets in the house, in granaries, you can collect plants, or collect dead cultivated plants in villages.
bushes can be dug up with a shovel and transplanted to yourself without losing quality, you can plant tree seeds without pots and skills, but they will lose half the quality.
seeds almost do not decrease in quality, especially if there is a kingdom buff, so if you find seeds of 300 quality, they will remain that way.
