Mound bed not working?

Postby ChristieMP » Wed Mar 18, 2026 12:24 am

Day 11 and the snow has crept into the radius of the mound bed this morning by about 1/4 in two fields. Never had this happen before?

Is it active? Do you need to re-mulch it?

One of my Mound bed stopped working. I logged into the game about six hours ago, everything was fine, and there were no indicators that it needed refilling. Now I logged in, and half the plants are frozen, and there's no indicator, the Mound bed looks normal. I refilled it with 12 mulch, and it started working again.

My friends have one that heats the soil exactly along the edge of the square, even though the radius is larger. There's a cutoff along the square line, and there's snow beyond it.

This is a well documented limitation of mound beds not crossing mega-square / server borders. You have a server border line through your farm. You'll need to make mound beds on either side of it.

Got it. Thank you. I've never encountered this before.
Can you tell me if there's some kind of indicator that it's time to add mulch to the mound bed? Or should I wait until it stops working (and everything freezes)?

If I had to take an educated guess, it would be that after the decay timer would otherwise hit (which MvGulik estimated to be 60 ingame days) your bed is probably inactive.
A haven year is 180 ingame days, with 105 summer, 30 spring/fall, 15 winter.

Assuming that mound beds continue to use the previous timer, and the timer MvGulik estimated is accurate, you'd just need to reapply mulch to your mound beds once in the autumn. If you wanted to keep them active for herb purposes, I suppose if your mound bed "decays" in mid summer just wait until the beginning of fall to reapply the mulch to not risk it "decaying" during winter.

I noticed this myself, indeed. Made a note to look at it.

I bet he just saw that snow has a tendency to also not fill/fall on all related snow targeted tiles. Which also generate sharp snow lines and corners, but which is not super-grid related.
