Aquire cave clay

I have been playing W16 now for what is it, 2 years? I have not once seen any cave clay. I am down to level 7 atm, and working on the potter's credo. This is my first time trying this credo, but oh my is this difficult. It is one step forward and two steps back since I have to cancel all these "Aquire cave clay" quests. Clearly there is something I am missing here. How do you guys do it? Advice needed. Thanks!

It's more common in shallow waters. You should probably build a system of roads that allows you to quickly scout all suitable bodies of water in your mine.

setup an alarm for cave clay at Icon Settings(bottom left)
sometimes they spawn even in the claimed mines, but I'd usually try to drop the quest and try my luck
