Trolls are OP

I just need to rant at the ridiculous scenario that just happened. I got to level 5, was mining for ore, and BAM a troll spawned. BAM my horse fled. BAM I was downed in less than five seconds, and dead after another. All in all, the encounter took six seconds from spawning the troll to dead. I don't mind that kind of mechanic but there should be *SOME* chance of survival, especially after investing so much time, energy, and some money into the game. I was at full health. I have no interest in making another character and doing the grind again. Give me my character back please because that death was just dumb.

There's supposed to be a 30 second grace period where trolls don't move/aggro you, but horses make them bypass that. I would call it a bug if the devs hadn't previously said otherwise, so working as intended

Is there any particular reason for a troll spawn bypassing the 30 second grace period due to the presence of a horse?

The 30 second grace period only applies to players, so it aggroed the honse immediately. The 'grace period' is just an animation, so that stops when it starts fighting the honse. Because the honse's bounding box and yours overlap the troll's anti-cheese mechanic kicks in and it KOs you with a boulder. Mining on a honse is always just a small chance of death every tile you mine, even if you have cave hermit.

It seems like it should respect the 30 second grace period regardless of if there's a horse or not... Especially considering how deadly trolls are.

Never mine at horse or with horse. Trolls hate them and everyone near them.

Trolls also follow the 25% chance per hit to keep attacking after KO like every other animal so it's unfortunate you were not strong enough to live through each hit to see the light of day.

I'm surprised that you experienced the same situation as I did. Just yesterday, while mining in B5, I was suddenly knocked down by a Troll. Its appearance had no warning at all—it emerged directly from the ashes. Fortunately, I wasn't killed. Perhaps because I was mining while riding a horse, the moment it appeared, it was able to deal a massive amount of damage to me.

You can have some of your character back if you bury your body.
look at it as a lesson that you will never forget at the cost of some of your stats and lp
