Farming, what should I know?

Postby Kamekono » Fri Nov 07, 2025 12:46 pm

Hello!
Could someone give me a breakdown on how to do farming now? I haven't played World 16, and I haven't done farming in a few worlds (or at least not in an efficient way).

I would really appreciate a "guide" so I don't screw it up when the new world starts.

This is pretty good:

Biggest change of which I'm aware is the "wild crops" throughout the world which must be planted several times before they turn domestic. The appear in patches around the world and there is definitely regionality. Once domestic crops exist in the world you can still forage Wild Windsown Weeds which yield type and quality from some domestic plant nearby

I did look into that, but it seems to be pretty outdated. So i'm hoping for some hardcore farmer to pitch in :)

I don't think the wiki entry is outdated, but perhaps it's merely the basics and you're looking more for "hot tips" for later in the world? What do you anticipate screwing up at world start? As long as you're growing your seed collection and Farming skill, I think you're hermitting just fine.

Maybe things like what modify-clicks can do as far as harvesting a patch or planting a patch rather than having to click each crop?

I have my own preferred plot sizes at different stages of the game to make it convenient. For example before I have all the skills increasing yield, have more inventory space, and have a decent scythe.

The wiki mentions "Might be different per region. (N-minimaps, or per supergrid. Lacking solid data on this)" n the Quality of seeds (-2+5) section. Is this confirmed? Should I try to plant in multiple areas, or are these region so large that it's not doable?

I've heard a long time ago that there was some sort of cap for each crop in a specific area. Is this a thing?

Wild crops: does each patch give the same output when domesticated (eg. I pick up 20 wild onions, they will all eventually grow to be yellow onion), or how are they randomized (each crop is random? is a 2hour "switch" like for quality?). Does regionality come into play somehow? (eg. all wild onions in a region are leek, you have to pick them from another region to find reds). I remember our farmer having issues with this a couple of worlds ago.

What's the best way to try to get all seeds? I remember our farmer having a super hard time getting flax.

Any other tips?

I'm assuming this hasn't become outdated, to any significant degree:

Due to the "Might" & "Lacking solid data on this", assuming that these regions are pretty large is a good start. It might even be there are no clear-cut regions (other than supergrids).

There are map nodes where some crops grow better than others, given the same seeds and farming skill. Turnips planted on one side of my farm will grow faster and raise q faster than those planted on the other side. With trees you should pay attention to the terrain, I can plant identical pine trees just a few tiles apart but on different terrain, some will be q180 some will be q164. Also the q of crops is affected by the farming skill of who plants them but not by who harvests them. Bees will affect growth speed and yield but not q, though crop q affects the q of larvae, honey, and wax; and bees have no effect on grains, tobacco, or trees. Crops grown during winter (with mound beds) will not improve, but will not lose q either.

Actually i believe that's probably the new size mechanic where a tree can randomly grow to be something like 80% to 250% as large which decreases/increases its quality and resource yield that same amount.

(In Groves of that tree they can reach 300% to 350% i think)
Total misplay.
