You can plant any seeds you find; skills come into play once you've harvested, except for farming skill, which factors into q when planting. The farming skill of anyone harvesting doesn't matter.

For grapes just build trellises and right click the grapes on the trellis; you will have to destroy the old vines and "plant" higher q grapes to improve them.

Winemaking is needed to plant grapes (you should get a clear error message if you try to plant them while not having the skill.)

Grinding 'Cured Pipeweed' into Pipestuff is a crafting recipe that (as usual) requires discovery of the raw material and the relevant skill, 'Pipes & Pipeweed'.

'Farming' confusingly can refer to three different things:
1. Basic skill that allows you to plant/harvest most crops (one-time purchase)
2. Attribute that applies the softcap when planting and is relevant to various crafting recipes (colloquially referred to as "skill" - for an example, "raise the farming skill" - leading to confusion with number one)
3. Farmer -credo is sometimes referred to as "farming credo"

Odd, I've been able to "plant" grapes on trellises, harvest and eat them. But could not build an extractor, or even use one, til I had winemaking. But that's a relatively inexpensive skill, just have to remember to get it.
