Well your screenshot is someone with a palisade and metal. I agree it's not unreasonable that some new players would pick up on something like that on their own or see others doing it throughout the beginning and mimic the style, but I doubt they are all going to consider things like placement of the claim pole to prevent entry correctly, checking the rest of the cave for other exits or ensuring the cave they pick only has one, or even something as simple as placing the hearthfire inside the cave before building the claim.

I'm more concerned about the potential for abuse that caused them to make those changes to cave entrance/exit in the first place, like the visitor gate thing.

Ye, I'd personally prefer them remove safepalis entirely too. Their state rn is a li'l silly where there's like 12 designs that entirely bypass the """intended""" mechanics and basically recreate W10 style safepalis

Add alternative to leather for building pali
Early game wall alternative to pali with decent soak like 200 STR (stone wall?)

Without some of these changes, cave claims should stay. The early game ratfucking gets stupid.

Dislike making vandal more expensive. It would need to be a pretty significant increase (at least 300k) to not have people with vandal before leather is obtainable. Makes griefing with claims + walls a fair bit more tedious to deal with

Great inputs, +1

I agree that this mechanic is stupid and should be reverted.
It's a lie that most hermits and spruces do this; most people don't do it. In this world, we raided several bases pre-palisade doing this, even bases with 10+ hearthfires. Maybe 10% of bases we found were using this to protect themselves.
The ones saying that spruces do this want to keep on raiding while being invincible.
Blocking building on the cave entrance will mostly hurt major factions that go on raiding sprees early on. If you want to protect your leather and go unnoticed, simply don't leave scents on the whole map; there will be hundreds of other bases to raid, and the ones raiding will have their characters vulnerable to dying. If you do buy rage and leave scents before you can protect yourself, that's your own fault.
It is very obvious to me that this is a mechanic that favors the few who know it and prejudices the majority that doesn't. Whoever disagrees with this, in my opinion, wants to keep being among the few that benefit from this.

Just let me put hide in a bucket of tanning fluid so I can log off with it.
No need to leave in exploits.

People who disagree with my idea only want this exploit to hide from crime retaliation.

If enough people know about this and claim all the caves within 8 hours, leading to threads complaining about the lack of accessible caves, then it will likely be removed in W17.

With that said, if you really want it removed, then spread the word. The best thing to do is to let as many people as possible know about this exploit, so they all abuse it.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

map size gotta be huge, if they're expecting more than the usual 1000-1500
or maybe the spawn is randomized to alleviate
