How is it different from paling a cave after the point where you have the resources to build a second pali? legit asking

a lot of blocks, 10 leather, 2 bone glue, 5 ropes, and terraforming around the cave, thats the difference.

It's like saying, this free thing that costs 1 dream and 4 bones is equal to a half hour or more of effort+ needing the materials. Veteran logic is always a laugh.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

I guess? 30 minutes is a sneeze considering the no-lifing just playing the game at all takes. Your best point is on the materials, specifically leather. But I think it becomes a none issue after day 1 as if you're playing somewhat competitively you have a pali to make your leather in for a pali instead. This as a day 1 security measure is a significant bigger concern then begin able to secure a cave entrance cheaper.

Being at the mercy of anyone with Vandalism for 34 straight hours (48 if you include the time it takes a pali to generate a decent amount of soak) is awful. Especially for hermits and small groups. These cave claims are the only reprieve.

I would like to see Dry Stone Fence buffed so that it's a viable defensive option before palisades to "safely" dry and tan leather. Perhaps a new, expensive skill between Vandalism and Siegecraft called "Breaking and Entering" would be required to Vandal a Dry Stone Fence.

So, i just got my pali broken. Thats fine i can break theirs and them, the thing is, they dont have a pali, they are still in a cave blocked by a claimpole and i cant even try to get my shit back.
No other cave enterances around. Build a minehole on top of them? Fuck you

inb4 wait until pali dries before you move out(most of my things are still in a cave somewhere around ;])

While technically available to anyone, "hermits and small groups" are less likely to know about this claim block thing.

Although, if this logic was taken to its extreme, even a regular palisade would be "gift to factions and nobody else."

This is a perfect example pf why this should be reverted.

But also why siege should be easier for everyone. The "cant even try" part gets to me

I think most of the playerbase agrees it's a horrible change. I don't even understand what the devs were thinking, why this would be a reasonable feature.

I've never had such a safe start before, and in fact I still use my old cave as a leather factory. Had multiple of my neighbors raided, but no one yet put the effort in to tunnel to my cave system

I guess they were not thinking. Plenty of solid reasoning in this thread as to why it's a bad idea and a poor substitution for a real mechanic but they completely ignored all of that.
