Cascade damage can only happen between segments with the same soak.
Does this mean that if I extend my wall, and then knock down the new section before it's reached full soak, it won't damage the rest of my pali? Is this accurate/am I understanding this right?
I'm fairly sure the wiki is
wrong, actually. There was a controversy a while ago that walls used to always cascade, then it was changed to what the wiki says, then at some point it was reverted and barely anybody knew about it, and some village got raided by extending a palisade (cornerpost was on the edge of the claim) and bashing it immediately after it started gaining soak. I'm not aware of any changes since then...but there's no official source we can reference to verify how it currently works. (I've simply refrained from extending my palisade at all since it dried because I'm not sure it's safe and there is no reliable way to check it, also due to the arcane rules around them.)
If I recall correctly, it does not cascade (or maybe cascades only to similar segments?) if it has no soak at all (i.e. in the first 24 hours), but after that it cascades into fully dried wall segments, meaning you risk losing part of your original palisade if you bash a partially dried segment - or someone else comes along and does it for you. (For that matter, I'm not sure if the magical handbash protection for claimed palisades kicks in after 24 hours or after 72 hours.) But I cannot guarantee this and will not be held responsible if it turns out to suddenly cascade into dried segments while fully fresh after all.
