There are two forms of treatment: aggressive, temporary treatment and gentle, permanent treatment.
Temporary treatment is on average faster (not in every case, willow weep is temporary but not as effective as cold compress which is permanent.) but will expire after a certain amount of wound points are healed. You'll know how many points it can heal before it expires by said non-percentage number next to it.
Permanent treatment treats the wound and stays on it until the wound is either healed, or transformed. Wounds can transform, even when treated, into worse wounds with trauma. For example one wound tree is Knicks & Knacks -> Scrapes & Cuts -> Deep Cut -> Cruel Incision.
However all permanent treatments also reduce that chance for the wound to transform by a flat amount, affected by the tier of medicine (honey wayband is higher tier than waybroad, for example.) as well as the quality of the medicine.
At 0% treatment, the treatment is still healing the wound, but not protecting it from transforming at all. At 100%, the wound can never transform. You won't generally see the percentage get very high, the most I usually see is 50%. I THINK, but can't say for certain, that larger wounds require higher quality medicine to reach the same transform protection. IE I can easily treat a 8 damage deep cut and get in to ~50%, but a 108 Blade Kiss i got from a bear only had 8% when i treated it with Gauze, a fairly high tier medicine.
To be honest though I'm not sure if it's only permanent treatments that grant reduced transformation chance, or if temporary treatments do too and just can't show you because the space it taken up by their expiry counter. One could argue the drawback of more potent, temporary treatments along with obviously being temporary is that they don't help protect from wounds transforming at all, but it's not confirmed.
I know for a fact that yarrow or something used to show a percentage but now shows an expiry counter. Does that mean the percentage transform reduction was removed or is again just hidden by the expiry counter now? Idk...
Also it's worth noting that medicines that give a permanent drawback, like toad butter giving a nasty wart, are usually the best speed-wise for healing, but not protection. ALSO also, if a wound transforms while treated the treatment is destroyed and you must re-treat the new worse wound, naturally, but that does also mean you instantly lose any buffs/debuffs from the treatment and that includes a nasty wart from toad butter or whatever.
