the small rivers are crossable by a brand new character assuming you start with full stamina.

I have seen rivers that are just shallow water, so check if you can just walk across it with swimming turned off.

Can confirm this lol. I thought I had already replied, but anyway I died swimming over only a couple of deepwater tiles starting at full stam. One second I had over half left, the next zero and drowned. Don't swim unless, like me, you get a tiny island spawn and have no choice. It'll work; until it doesn't.
