Any way to generate ashes?

Just discovered those curiosities that I can craft that needs ashes, just don't know how I can get ashes reliably. Thanks!

Can't put branch or blocks of wood in the fire tho

Pick up stick, right click fire, put stick in pack. turns to ash. I'm not sure if anything else can be burned down this way.

Or you can pust bone in a kiln and then you transform the result in your inventory by right clicking on it and you get 0.20 of ashes
