Does wall toughness indicate type of rock/ore?

I've come across about 6 different toughness messages when trying to mine, as well as some spots taking more time/stamina than others, so I was wondering if that has any indication of what type of boulders might be found?

The different rocks have different hardness, so, yes, at least to some extent. There is, however, also a hardness field, so local hardness will vary over the map.
