How do I tame and ride horses?

Is taming for horses the same as every other animal and how do you ride once tamed?

Give them clover, then hope that they dont kick you in gace. Then right click and ride them. But watch out if you run out of pony power or bad things will happen!

And it's important to note that they are not permanently tameable. Yet.
