What's the easiest way to get some kind of red restoration?

Have someone else teach you the move. The only other option is to get lucky. Relevant C&I thread here.

best to fight an animal that drops red reductions without hitting red itself. Namely Foxes give Yield Ground, and Bats can give Flex (which admittedly is terrible but >nothing) and Artful Evasion

Once you get at least one of those you probably want to fight enough other creatures (badgers, deer, boar, cave slimes) to get Artful and maybe Zigzag Ruse.
Note that Combat Instructions which other players can use to “teach” moves are not so direct: you put them into your study window and then when you kill an animal that can drop the move in question, you have an increased chance of receiving that specific move.

It may actually be easier to kill animals for red reduction moves using Archery, you still get moves that way and don’t ever have to get hit. Deer and Boars don’t have very much armor.

Is there any way to repair/recycle non-gildable armour pieces?

What else is there to do with an item with 100% wear if it can't be recycled?

They used to just be destroyed when they reached that point. It was changed so they would be disabled, instead. That change doesn't make any sense if there's nothing that can happen with them aside from them being deleted. If there isn't yet, does that mean there's something else in the works?

Some people were annoyed by repairing batcapes every 5 minutes.
