How does herbal grind and miner calcination work?

They combine two specific alchemical ingredients (herbs or stone) into one. Specifics haven't been worked out, but for example, if you know a herb and two types of stone that give desired effect in an elixir, you can combine that herb with mineral calcification made from the two specific stones.
Note: potential confusion may arise from the fact that herbal grind does not count as herb, and mineral calcification does not count as stone, both are only alchemical ingredients.
