Can you destroy minehole from below (ladder)?

Can you destroy minehole from below (clicking ladder)? If so I have never been able to.

Logged on today it was gone. Enclosed in visitor gates under village claim:

They could have come up from under there and destroyed it. Did you have vgates at the bottom other wise they popped up without Vgate restrictions and bashed it.

That's what happened. Slipped in from level 2 after they bashed that and climbed up to level 1. :(

Man some people just have nothing better do to...lol

But to confirm, you have to be on top of minehole to destroy. That was more my question. :D
