Because the colours you set in your kin list and the colors you set in the village list are different.
You need to *memorise* someone in order to "add" them to your kin list and assign a colour to them, while the white colour group accounts for any hearthling in the white group + those you haven't memorised.
The same way, you need to *oath* someone to the village in order to "add" them to the village list and assign a colour to them, while the white colour group will just account for any hearthling in the white group + those you haven't oathed.
Yes, you can keep a hearthling's colour in either list white, but that doesn't mean they're considered different from the rest of the hearthlings that you don't have in your list.
