Huge damage during coal mining

Today, while mining coal in the mine, I almost died from huge damage during coal mining. for an incomplete yellow chest, 116 hp (yellow) was removed from me
Is this normal? I get 21 (yellow damage) for 1 unit of coal. I used to get 1-2 damage, now I'm 21+

I mined like 5 stacks of coal (75 units?) and I didn't get a single point of damage. Or it is all gone the next day. No mask. It was on lvl5 and around q110.
But I also never put it in chests.

Peppering an LC of food will kill your 1000hp character after ~15 pieces.

Once you start taking damage from coalers cough, pepper burn etc, you need to start keeping an eye on it as it gets out of hand quick
