Village claim in mines

A noob question from a not-so-noob player.

After all these years I created my first village, so far so good. My alt has been able to come and go freely, apparently I cannot make her an official village member.

Now I want to extend the claim into my mine, but what I read online is contradictory. From what I remember of past worlds it was simply a matter of placing a banner or totem or some such on each level of the mine, as long as it was directly below the village claim, but nothing I now read supports that.

Also, how do I set claim privileges? Right click on the village totem merely gets an option to "Renounce Lawspeaker", nothing else. My location is such that I'm not blocking access to anything, but I know how irritating it can be to make a long detour around a claim when foraging or questing where trespassing isn't allowed.

... how do I set claim privileges?

1) Open [Kith & kin].
2) Click village button.
Now you should see two color bars.
The bottom one is for giving a particular character a color/(set of rights). (click on some name for that color-bar to show up ... again.)
And the top 'Groups' color bar is for setting the rights for a given color. (click on one of those colors to show the available rights.)

+ Only give "Grant privileges" to your alts (makes them in essence also lawspeakers). Anyone else could take over the v-claim by kicking you out if they have that right.
++ Not to sure right now ... but I think you can, accidentally ofc, disable the "Grant privileges" on yourself. So makes sure you have an alt that has this right to restore it.

Well, I got the materials for a banner, went down in the mine, tried to erect it, and got a message - "you do not rule that land". Now what?

any other claims close by? villages used to require 100 tiles buffer

There are no active villages, or even farms, anywhere near me. Closest is a decayed farm just off the map to the west, I've already looted it.

My mine is sunk from a cave just outside my pali, covered by both personal and village claim. A small area inside the cave is claimed by my alt, the mine extends two levels below that. A personal claim does not extend to levels above or below it so that shouldn't be a problem. The "claim view" shows nothing on either mine level.

just to be sure, every level must have a flag, cant skip a level

so I'm guessing the problem is your alt claim is blocking the claiming

first option is changing your alt stake claim permissions to allow friends do anything (rclick stake claim, then set green group to allow all, then set friends to green in Kin window)

if permissions doesnt work, maybe is not possible to village engulf older pclaims? I don't know the situation, but if that's the case then you'd have to remove pclaim and build flag, but that's the more risky option

The claim in the cave is over a year old, so the village can't override it; my alt and I have full permissions on that claim, nothing, not even trespass, is given to anyone else. I assume then that is blocking the village claim from extending down.

It might be simpler to just drop another mineshaft between my ground level pali and the cliff with the cave, then tunnel south 8-10 tiles into that mine chamber, than to destroy the claim post in the cave. Could I then place the village banners in the mine?

If you have access to the character that owns the pclaim, make sure the character trying to place a Banner has 'Vandalism' permission on the pclaim.

Like other posters have said, building a Banner in a cave, having the vclaim directly above counts as "adjacency" or whatever you'd like to call it. Taking a detour to spread the "adjacency" should work fine.

My alt staked the claim (I was already maintaining two), we both have full permissions on it.
