And it was ainran who was invited into Zox's war. It has nothing to do with this at all.

Zox was raided because he pushed too many people's berserk button. Ainran is only relevant in one faction's storyline. The other has their reasons for wanting Zox dead which is not linked to Ainran.

What peoples opinion of Zox is or what he did to annoy random people isn't really relevant. It was lord of shadows who killed him and they didn't just decide out of the blue to spend half a day camping a ram to kill some random hermit, they did it because Zox teamed up with ainran and killed their allies. Somehow I don't think the "retribution" mentioned in OP is to do with clay prices.

Great houses were angry at Zox because he supplied clay to ryleh/ainran but not them. It's clear which side Zox picked in this war, and it is clear why he got raided, how you can say it is not related to Ainran is just baffling.

I only know of Great House's storyline of how it is linked with Zox and I do not know of Lord of Shadow's storyline (not sure if I missed it in this post). The third faction's storyline is due to Zox's action that after some tense exchange of incident (One forager killed and then took some of his clay for exchange), he asked for real money in exchange that they will not be attacked.
(Actually I am not under liberty to disclose some information detail out of respect)

Also in Great House's storyline, Zox has performed some other actions that has antagnized them as well so while, they are advesaries of Ainran, it is not their sole reason and Zox's action also plays a role in their participation.

Ainran is not irrelevant in this storyline but I feel you've over-exaggerate Ainran's role in this incident and that they are the only and sole reason for Zox's demise.
