Is equipment wear bugged?

Postby dropbear » Fri Oct 20, 2023 7:01 pm

I keep reading that equipment is supposed to disappear once their wear gets maxed. I've been using the same leather boots & shield for ages; wear is maxed and stays there, but the gear pieces don't disappear & I still get the armour bonuses and can use shield block etc.

I'm wondering if this is how wear is supposed to work, or is something going wrong? Has the "broken item disappears"-thing been removed? If so, what purpose does wear have?

I mean I dunno, maybe it's supposed to be like this and the UI just shows the armor values that aren't in effect anymore due to maxed wear? At times it's hard to say if it's a bug or a feature, just want some clarification here :D

I thought that gear being destroyed when max wear is reached was removed on purpose but I didn't know it still gives you armor. I would be fine if the gear gildings still worked but no longer improved AC if there was some way to repair armor.

Huh, alright - they should probably make the armor bonuses disappear from the bonuses list then, now it's just confusing. Looks like I can still use shield block with a broken shield, hard to say if it does anything tho (since my shield and skills are kinda shite and I'm fighting stuff like bats and foxes).

EDIT: Also, if the armor doesn't do anything once it's wear is maxed, how is that any different than it just disappearing? Can you recover the materials from it somehow or something, or is it just a pointless equipment screen ornament now?

Armor that has gildings still give the gilding bonuses, I think.

It's meant so that if you gild a bat cape for instance and its wear hits 0, you can still wear it for the flair and get the gild's stats and it simply no longer counts as armor.
Total misplay.

And very importantly, the Bat Wing retains its special functionality of preventing bats from attacking you. My bat cape broke a long time ago, but I don't mind as the main reason I have one is to be able to walk through caves without getting bothered by bats. Before the change I always had to unequip my bat cape before engaging in combat.
