Cowportation

The worst monsters in the Hearthlands warp the fabric of space and time...

Cowportation

Postby Sevenless » Sat Sep 19, 2015 7:04 am

Unfortunately I don't have a good documentation on this particular bug. But I penned both my cows side by side across a wicker fence. The fence was not fully enclosed, but you could not cross the pens due to hitbox blocking. The pens had a single tile spacing in the wall (character can fit through), and the oven corner is unpathable even to a character. Despite trying I couldn't get cows out a single tile wide hole in the fence.

Events: My bull teleported into the female's pen. And shortly later while I was watching the female teleported out of both pens entirely and was wandering around outside.

I'm fairly certain the female teleport happened without lining up with the corner either, so the motion was directly over a wall.

Use a hitching post and tether the animals?

Oh, I also wanted to ask this question: Is it necessary to hitch tamed animals?

I actually couldn't tether a tamed animal at all. Not particularly bothered that they TPed, as in don't need a solution. Just figured I'd start the thread since we will definitely be getting more bug reports before this is fixed XD

Seems like it's same as in legacy, portation related to mating and birthing.

The two cow sprites becoming one cowfucking sprite then breaking back apart into two cow sprites trying to find fair tiles to land on is the issue.
This was also the issue in chair and boat hopping walls, signwarping into bases, and several other bugs.
Lets quit putting bandaids over these, like moving walls away from shore edges and all the things we tried to fix signhopping.

The issue is clearly that there is no 'check' for a wall tile when the game is attempting to place or re-place a sprite somewhere 'clear'.
Can the algorithm to locate a safe tile really be that hard that you've just been like 'fuck it work around it' for five years?

Well now we're paying for it, so redirect some of that hat money to someone who can code

Should work though (did with my bull) and keeps them from moving around.

I can understand the cow cannon theory of calf delivery, but these quantum leap cows are just... weird.
Come back two hours earlier.
