Map Data loading (Finally died from it)

Postby kryowolf » Tue Sep 29, 2015 1:48 am

For awhile now I had been having issues with certain grids that, when I got near, would cause my screen to go black with 'Map data loading' for a good 2 minutes, sometimes longer. The minimap also shows black so i cannot see where my character is wandering, and unless it bumps into a tree or something, my character just keeps going. I had just started swimming a small river when the same thing happened, my character kept going into nothing but black and his stamina started draining again, apparently having walked into an unseen body of water not long after finishing his first swim.

As far as the actual bug goes, I can't find any relation to the grids at this moment that cause it, some do and some don't it seems. I can walk for several grids without a problem only to run into one that does, and i had no issues following said incident. Java and drivers are up to date.

My fiance has HUGE issues with the black map loading screen

Exiting a house is literally a 2 minute adventure into the black abyss and don't even get me started on logging in

Not sure what to do about it/what causes it, but aware.

I am sorry for your loss.

I have trouble with this also but it doesn't take a couple of minutes for me just maybe 5 seconds in some instances, can prove problematic if hostiles reside in the are you happen to be loading into, aka waiting for everything to load when entering a cave.

I would imagine that some pre-loading could alleviate this somewhat but could cause issues with slower machines, could be something that you could turn on or off

Map Data loading (Finally died from it)

Postby Sarge » Mon Oct 26, 2015 4:52 pm

Dear Loftar... I know fuckall about IT stuffs.

Every now and again I can only get to "map data loading" on black screen and no matter how many times I try I can't get further than that. I just have to sit and wait for a while and try later. I am rather used to interwebs problems living in dark Africa (well not so dark anymore, last week we discovered fire) but with this it seems different in the sense that my interwebs functions well for all other things while I can't get into Hafen. I can even watch Youtube in HD without buffering (yes this is a really big deal) but I can't get into Hafen.

Is my shit just bust or can you help me?

I'm sorry for your loss as well. Alas, as a fellow player that has almost been a victim of that as well I can't do much.

That said, allow me to throw just a tip - when swimming, try to give a single, straight as possible, click for the other side. That way you can be sure that no matter what happens: your connection drops, game crashes, black 'map data' screens, etc... you'll reach the other side safely. Unless your maximum stamina isn't enough, that is - but that would be your fault :P

Real shame I didn't get a response (/verydissapointedemoteguy - hope you feelbadman, you should), but anyways, with the help of some really bright friends, figured this shit out, for some instances at least.

How to bypass this bullshit in extreme Layman's (band-aid):

What happens when you BSoD "waiting for map data" is that there are somehow too many things to load and the server, for some fucked up reason, thinks you are not getting the loading data and simply stops sending to you and causes you to hang. You, however, can still send data to the server and therein lies the bypass. So when you BSoD next time with "map data loading", open your equipment window (ctrl-e) and shift click equipment, which will unequip the gear to your inventory (do NOT ctrl-click, that drops to the ground!). It will look like nothing is happening (because the server is not sending the data back to you), but it is server side... you are actually unequiping. Unequip as much as you can, close the client and restart and voila, you have reduced the volume of loading data sufficiently to log in again.

Good luck.

It seems that Sarge has instance of this problem: viewtopic.php?f=47&t=40252&start=50#p535725, so I'm not sure it's related to the OP's problem.

He is actually getting a black screen after character selection. He can open some UI windows, type in commands, etc.

Basically we noticed that Sarge can log in with his naked alts, while his main couldn't. That's how we managed to find a workaround described above. So it seems that some initial message with resources for equipment is too big for him.
