Certificate Error

Postby sMartins » Sun Mar 05, 2017 3:21 am

Not a Bug.
I'd just like to inform devs that now under Win 10/ Microsoft Edge, havenandhearth.com shows a Red Certificate Error saying:
"this site is trying to deceive you or intercept informations you send to it: please close this website immediately"
P.S. this is my traslation from Italian....but pretty much it's that....

mmm....probably cause you have already said to the browser to allow that page previously, saving the password, etc...or idk.
Previously on Win 10 or Win 7 the browser told you that the website is not safe and so on.....but now it doesn't even show you the website anymore untill you say to it to keep going on that page.....not really good advertisement for new players, etc...

Quit using Microsoft browsers. Edge is a lot better than Internet Explorer, but still sucks compared to Chrome or Firefox.

You might still run into issues with HTTPS if you haven't manually installed a certificate. I had to using Firefox for the forums.

The newest version of Edge is not even in top 5, and if you were to consolidate different versions, it's not even top 3... (MS Internet Explorer still beats it out.) It would be smarter to say "well, a few people use it, so maybe check it out." Many people use Chrome with Firerfox and IE coming in 2 and 3. (Safari and Opera might come in higher than Edge does if you consolidate all the versions.)

FYI, My theory as to why IE still comes in higher: I know a lot of businesses and such that have to use one particular browser for database access and such as it would require a huge amount of work to port everything over to run Chrome or Firefox. This is pretty much the reason IE even registers. There's a small percentage of people that aren't tech savvy and see no reason to change browsers.

Some people post HTTPS links which require you to install the Seatribe self-signed certificate to avoid the warnings. Truthfully, it's as safe as any officially issued certificate IF (and that's a big if) you trust the person that is issuing it.

As far as I can tell, loftar knows this and is fine with it. At least my understanding is that he keeps puts off changing the website cert. I could be wrong and he just overlooks it while working on other things more. I seem to recall him mentioning it at least once as it something he should probably do.
