It appears it is possible to drag and get moose stuck on water if you pull them onto properly angled peninsulas. I was able to get it stuck and prevent it from fleeing.

As seen here when it is killed, it is not treated as in water.

Well the moose should be able to swim after you anyway! Maybe not walk on water though..
Can you explain more details how to do this?

You could also PM the details to devs if you don't want everyone to kill Mooses like this.

Yup didn't intend to publish how or where I was able to do this, a message has been sent to Jorb on the matter.

Huh, fascinating. Thank you for the report.

It's a quirk of the mapgen, it should work with any animal I think. Some locations like the above-noted shallow waters stretch out a bit further than what can visually be seen. This is similar to what occurs when land and shallow tiles get mixed together in strange ways causing tiny pockets of what visually looks like land that can be boated through. Walking on these invisible shallow spots with a player is possible too.

Thats what i thought, until the moose couldnt path back out of it once it managed to get itself lodged in it.

I'm not sure why it happens that way but I'd guess it relates to how for example when you're running on 4th speed and it allows you to pass between tiny spaces you normally wouldn't be able to. I guess the pathing allows them to get through, but not to get back for whatever reason.
