The worst monsters in the Hearthlands warp the fabric of space and time...

Here, I found it .....

Just scroll down ....

Warning! For mansions they use the secondary color for the wood, the color you would see on the targets on an archery target.

And also here;

ApocalypsePlease wrote:It should be noted, very VERY importantly that the mansion wood colour uses the "inner" wood colour (i.e. not the bark, but the board colour). I made a terrible mistake believing it would use the bark texture and ended up with a hideous house, don't fall victim to the same trap

But, I'm really not sure about halls, just assuming it is the same. :)

If that is an intended behavior - that is a very odd design for players to grasp. Adding to that that we did quite a few buildings with blocks working as normal before - it is really odd to see that mention in a forum post and nowhere in the wiki or by the developers themselves inside the guide (including that most people won't search for info so much when they "got the idea" of the block/board coloration.

Would love to know why it works/not works seemingly at random in certain cases (like one above). Case above uses black color for a board (doors) as an example. :roll:

Yeah, someone else will have to help you with a more detailed answer ... but I can show you this;

Image

For my mansion in terms of wood I used;

100 Planewood blocks ... which used the inner colour
35 Spruce planks
25 Planewood planks ... for the door
5 Iron.

Planks always use the inner colour.

Also, I've just realised that in the link on your post Turtlesir is talking about the materials used on the village idol, not the mansion. :)

My bad then :D

Still, quite an odd behavior and unnecessary complicated. Somewhere there SHOULD be mention of what kind of color it uses. Especially since it for some reason may use either of those in different situations.

Looked at my "old" mansion. Was build quite some time ago so we don't remember exact materials, but it actually could be that we used trees that have both textures similar to eachother. Its very visible when you use something that has drastically different colors, ofc.

WTB better explanations on guidelines for coloration then. This is a quite major thing for designing your building and people need to know during planing and not afterwards :P

(I wish I would go with white stone under it now... it would look strange in planned version, but would completely fit under this one. oh well :| )

There should be a better building system for this, yes, and I think that's probably the real bug here.

Creating a robust system that needs no searches outside of the game is always good, but in reality just mentioning what color used where in those great design pics you were already making would be good enough for us, I would think!

(also, any chance for walls inside buildings that actually match wall color outside?)

I'd rather see it customizable in some way. Good idea, but I'd like more than making it look like the outside.
