There certainly is some kind of a problem with quest arrows.
After messing around with quests, the arrow pointing to my original quest giver disappeared.
I have 3 quests to do with him, so this is kinda disappointing.

I've thought someone simply chopped the quest tree down, though. Did anyone do testing what happens in that case?

Ok so the source of the problem should be:
When you do action related to the any quest (for example craft stone axe for the tutorial quest) it makes that quest active. So it means that you can have your active quest changed times to time and you will not notice it.
