To get away from a hostile that it cannot reach? What would you do if someone started shooting at you and you couldn't attack them back?

And why should it suddenly turn around again after 3 punches.

Because you're now presenting a target? The animal made a strategic retreat, but turned around when it determined that it could reach you. Seems very reasonable.

It's 0 fun to hunt. Especially when you are alone.

If your view of the animals is that they are meatbags for you to harvest, then maybe not. I take a different view.

If it still compliments gameplay then a touch of realism might not hurt here. In reality when an animal is wounded in a hunt and not completely maimed, their initial rate of fleeing is approximately "Leeerooooyyyyyyy Jeeeeeenkiiinzzzzz" cause adrenaline. Really, don't underestimate adrenaline (or a feminist right after being mansplained on the pros and cons of tampons). Thereafter they start taking strain and slowing down at an exponential rate as fatigue/blood loss/shock sets in and adrenaline wears off.

So now for those that are no doubt crying in their pants about rl hunting: Enter the majestic buffalo, if we every happen to get something like that. Jayzus, these things are mean. They are known to, if wounded, to flee out of visual and audible range and then make a biiiig ass circle and hunt you the fuck down. And not to give you a fright, it is with absolute intent of killing your ass. Code that AI Loftar, if you're not a scrub at coding :P (''Come on man, trust me, and you will make the great fortune.")
