Well, bottom line is - ants are useless atm. It's a fact and C&I section has already enough discussions on the subject. Is it a bug? My theory is - Jorb wanted it like that. It's kind of "don't follow the wiki blindly and discover what to do yourself" tutorial. :-)

Can't remember if I read that or not actually but IF there is a threshold system in place then this bug report/complaint or whatever you'd like to call it would be legitimate then. I mean, I don't think it's out of the question that this scenario can happen often enough. A solo hermit building up his infrastructure might be raising stats but doesn't actually get in to combat with anything until a little bit later.

If it works this way then there is indeed some cause to take issue considering combat discoveries have already been made to be a major pain in the ass, this just makes it so much worse.

Yeah, I don't disagree there's something here as I had some issues myself with ants starting out. Think I killed a dozen before I even got one discover, and still have only gotten a couple. Could be that ants, being low value targets (too easy) just aren't giving much in the way of discoveries. Bats, on the other hand, I seem to get a discovery every few.

Until a dev comfirms bug or not, or someone can throw some brute force at it, we're just all speculating on how the system works.

I know developer does not like to have external game documentation because it can fall out of sync with live mechanic. But this is good illustration of drawback of those methods. Players are left to speculate mechanic and do not know when there is bug.

And yet I can think of other very popular games that have little to no documentation on anything. Why? It's a game of discovery. If players want to know the intimate details of every mechanic, let them figure it out. You don't need to know them to play, but some people like solving the puzzles.

That said, there are some things with Haven that probably are need to know that aren't well documented, thus making it difficult to figure out where the real bugs are.

I can appreciate both side of argument. It would be nice to know about core system at least. At least in case like this where testing is difficult because it could just be bad luck.

Guys, but why do you think ants have to give discoveries to start with?

In the older combat there was a progression. You start without yellow defense and had to grind ants to get it before you can approach bats. Now we have:

1. Ants spit acid, are relatively hard to kill and take you HP at an alarming rate.
2. You have jump in the starting deck right away.

Doesn't it look like a hint?

Character stats have no influence on discoveries. Not a bug.
