Previous history says that worlds get reset on an average of 6-9 months if you take out w6 and w7, both of which ran 2 years. Since neither of those saw major updates, there was no reason to reset the world. After momentous updates, such as the current mining system, world resets have typically been faster than 6 months, though w4 was the shortest lived at around 7 weeks (damn bot abusers).

August + 6 months = February. :)

It doesn't log you out, it just boots you back to character selection, so it stays connected. Not playing the character, of course.

Tonkyhonk wrote:is it possible that a starving damage prevented him from an attempt to log out? (but not notice while he didnt properly log out?)

I just tested, and can verify that starvation damage does not abort logout.

Tonkyhonk wrote:i think i remember original legacy default client forced log out chars after certain time of idling, and custom clients stopped auto logging out. was i dreaming?

Such a feature has certainly not existed. :) Perhaps you're thinking about custom clients not putting the character in AFK mode (with the "ZZZ" marks, that is)?

Ronin30 wrote:@maze, I tested with my alt and can confirm. If you x out of the client without doing the in game logout and you take a starvation tick of damage before your character leaves the game world, the game keeps you in, feeding you starvation ticks until you die.

I also just tested, and this does not appear to be the case. In fact, if you close the client, the character will even stop taking starvation damage, as that only happens with an active session these days.

Why does it happen only with an active session? Logging out to delay starving doesn't seem right?

I don't really think so either, but it seemed overly harsh on characters that can't log out (because they're stranded on foreign claims, for instance).

Here's to hoping the reset is delayed significantly than the norm to iron out all the major bugs of a new game, not just a new world.

Horrible horrible random bad luck, I'm so sorry. This could have easily happened to me on multiple characters as i have logged out low energy too.

so in short maze didn't starve he was falsely starved to death by the game server feeding him starvation pings due to buggily staying in game with his client off?
