There is some progression now to killing animals.
And why wouldn't a thousand arrows ruin the quality of the pelt?

IMO animals should swim and climb too.

But now you can just kill it with a sling for Q200 haHAAAAAAA xddddddddddddddddd

There's no progression dummy, archers just got cucked

A thousand arrows realistically ruin the pelt but in the game they also ruin the quality of the meat and bones??? BONES? Wot? Did I smash every single bone in the bear with my Q15 arrows? And when it comes to good game design and not realism it makes no sense that only one manner of hunting is just so useless (hunting with a bow) like, why? Why would you do that to poor larpy robin hood archers? Now they have to use a shitty ugly sling or use a boat to punch animals

Survival should just hardcap the quality of animal you get by the end of fight.
Melee trapping or ranged trapping(that includes slings too) is retarded without some kind of snares or metal traps.

When it comes to bones its the fact that you cut meat off with a blunt stone that ruins them.

I should also add the current system is an improvement of past.

In a game where everything else is getting hardcapped by stats, I have to say it makes sense. Jump starting the quality grind so much is a part of what burns people out, and it's not like it's hard to hit 100-150 in any one particular skill in the first week or two, so it's not really slowing it down much. The days of getting everything day one appear to be over, at least for now.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

This would kill trading unbutchered animals, which I have done in both legacy and Hafen. I think it is better if sprucecaps can sell high quality animals they are able to kill, not just trash the quality because they haven't ground their stats enough.

They can't do this anymore either way thanks to projectile nerf.
If you meant mid level players who can fight without ranged then you have a point.

Current and proposed is bad, yes. I like your suggestion far less than the current though, because you don't need high stats and a horse to kill with melee even if it's a pain and a lot less fun/larpy.

Adding a bit to this. I just hit 52 per and I can finally do a decent (110) damage on boars.

But foxes and deers still get hit for less than 50 damage. Maybe some of the stats should be rebalanced? I don't see why would a deer be so much harder to kill with a bow than a boar.

The reason is, in any event, indeed that the target's agility is now involved in determining final damage. Not a bug, but could perhaps need revision anyway.
