You need to actually remove the 32 bit version of Java for webstart to use the 64 bit version.
Add the command line to the process list in taskmanager (view, select columns), in case you see Program Files (x86) for the jp2launcher.exe you're running it in 32bit.

I've tried running the client from both a 64-bit browser with 64-bit Java and from a 32-bit browser with 64-bit Java, and neither one has made any difference to my problems. I'm definitely running the 64-bit version-- it traces back to Program Files, NOT Program Files (x86).

I informed Loftar about the issue, can't reproduce on my machine here (Official Client and Amber with both Java versions).

Since I'd really like to play, is it possible to use a custom client in the mean time (Endor, Amber, etc) to get by until this issue is resolved?

Sure, you could give them a try.

All who havn't, please post information about your system: at least OS, CPU and what kind of graphics card you have.

Just to add to the pile - got same issue. Game was running perfectly OK just 6 hours ago. Now it is stuttering since launch, leaking memory like crazy and finally crashing at 1.5 GB memory. It takes around 3 minutes for it to reach it's limit.
Yes, i do have 32-bit java, last update.
No, i did not updated my Windows 7 in ages.
It started only about now, last play-session 6 hours ago was perfectly good.

P.S. It is default client, not custom one.

Quick follow-up-- I've downloaded Ender's client and the game seems to be running perfectly fine. No memory leaks-- sitting stable at around 600-650MB, depending on surroundings, camera spins, etc. No stuttering.

If you need your Hafen fix, I'd recommend using it temporarily until whatever issue with the default client is sorted out.

I just recently pushed a broken fix for another bug that probably might cause this. If you reload the latest client, it should work normally again.
