Do you have any more information about this?

Nope, that just my guess based on well run in VMs. Now I'm reading mac specific documentation about OpenGL and window management.

Given that some claim that downgrading Java helps, that has been my guess as well (since I'm guessing that the newer Java version creates windows with different WM parameters or whatever might exist in OS X), but I haven't been able to find anything meaningful on the subject yet.

I confirm. I can build and run game fine with 1.6 JDK. It means that my guess about CGL is wrong :)

Searching for info about Mac OS X related things in java 1.7 - 1.8.

I doubt it has with Retina settings to do. The Mac I tested on did not have a Retina display. But what do I know. :)

Me too, but you need to consider all the conditions :)

So I'll investigate further.

something interesting i have to add to this

i downgraded and i can move around now, but i noticed before i downgraded that my cursor was overlaid on top of the game cursor. i dont know what that means but it may have some significance because it is fixed now that i downgraded

I tried running it on VirtualBox with all of XP, win7 and win8 and neither worked because VirtualBox can't into openGL (problems with the virtual graphic card and whatnot), and ended up setting up a bootcamp with win8 and it is working as expected. Switching around both is kind of shitty but whatever, I needed my custom client.
