I'm not entirely sure what I did to cause this but I was looking in a crate and then this happened.

Me too, its getting worse. Just relogged a couple times and it went away.

I encountered it too, it was a build sign (wooden crate).
Appeared when placing the object to build, vanished on abort or complete construction.
Relog fixed it.

Has been documented several times now. Indeed, relog to fix.
