Game crashes after login

So here's what happens to the client after I log in:

- Gui's load
- Loading messages appear
- Minimap loads
- Message repeatedly switches from "Loading map" to "Loading map (queued)"
- Ambiance plays
- Desktop begins flashing briefly
- Error popup from the Notification Area on the Taskbar reads as follows:
"Display driver ATI Radeon Family stopped responding and has successfully recovered"

At this point the game window is entirely black and the only way to close it is through the Task Manager via Crtl-Alt-Del. Can someone help me out?

Upgrade graphics driver, don't use the microsoft supplied one.
