Abnormal map shape?

I've been following what I though was the northern border of the map for the past few hours in an attempt to meet up with my group. With the addition of these nifty party arrows, I decided to see if I was headed in the correct direction, but the arrow is pointing NW of me (into the invisible border). The way I see it, there are two possible explanations; either the map has some irregular shape that makes it seem like I'm at the northern border, or there is something wrong with the party arrows.

Note that my camera is aligned with the cardinal directions, not the typical 45 degree angle like in the default client.

Anyone else experiencing something similar?

I continued following the border for a while and I can confirm that the map border does have some weird shape to it.
