I have noticed a few times now, that certain items, specifically fish, give discovery lp upon removing them from crate.

They do, indeed, not lose the "fresh out of nature"-status that the game uses to check whether you learn a new type from them, or not, by being in a crate. Intended.

I believe it is cleared whenever someone picks it up, but you'd have to ask the bossman for confirmation.

But... how do you get it into the crate... without picking it up?

Have a fish in a box, and slice it up where it sits. No problem.

Ah, that makes sense. I was thinking a fish that was fully intact and not butchered.
