Bats on the surface?

While hunting a boar i randomly ran into a group of two bats on the surface. These bats attacked me and made me lose allot of soft hp and i almost died from them. I dont know if they are supposed to be above ground or not. but they are

I'm pretty sure its intended, as they only seem to spawn at night.

oh ok, i have never seen bats at night, i thought they were only in caves

They spawn in some pine forest biomes.

These bats are brutal and you can barely see them on the minimap (which would be easier to view if it was on the a top corner imo). Everytime I go foraging I inevitably run into some. I think their icon hides under other icons, such as blueberries which is really bad. Ran into a group of three and they took about 80HHP off me yesterday..

Intended. They spawn in trees at night. Not a bug. Locking.
