Experience starvation ( >72hours:intended scenario or bug?)

Postby Zarxes » Sun Sep 06, 2015 9:07 am

So i have not had an experience for 3 days now. I am aware, that this might be intentional or that i am just screwed by rngeesus but still at this point it feels like a bug or at least like an unwanted scenario for me. Could it be that it was caused by studying a curiosity with 0 exp? Is it maybe a bug? Am i just impatient?

What i personally like about experience, that its an additional mechanic or recource that you have to play around. So for me i stopped using mirkwood offerings when i hit an arbitrary threshold of experience left. Because of that i have some time left before i am totally screwed. Also i like the system because getting an experience is a lot of fun.

For me the experience system looks like a refurbish of the old numen system where you had 3 eligible offerings and by sacrificing one of them you could cause a reshuffle. There where situations where you might be screwed where you would only get a reshuffle if you either sacrifice a pearl necklace, a b12 or a gold bar. Or its very easy where you get wheat flour, plant fibres and meat 10 times in a row.
The experience system feels a lot like that. But he difference is, that with numen it was transparent what you have to do next. The experience feels a littlebit like a maze. I would like it more if there where at least some hints of what you have to do. Maybe after some time. Or maybe a forced reshuffle after maybe 12 hours of beeing screwed.

I tried everything that has been worked before and everything that i could come up with. Crafting, mining, exploring, foraging, farming, cooking, sitting at tables, lifting, swimming, drinking, throwing away dreams, sittung below a willow and so on and so on. This feels more frustrating than some of the other aspects of the game, because i seem to have little influence or control over it. Also this does not make me play or enjoy all aspects of the game it forces me to do stuff i do not enjoy. If something goes wrong and frustration is caused by something i screwed up myself that is very much how i feel its fun. I think having a measure of control or having an actual counterplay to something is very important. Beeing screwed and having no control over it is not much fun (I know that its more realistic but isnt a game about having fun?).

This is just my 2 scents, i know there has been some discussion over the system and i was not sure if this was bug or critique.

P.S: I absolutely love your game. I am amazed at what you did with it, and i love that its hard and that you have to be smart about how you play, that it is always risk vs reward and that it does not fear to be mean or even downright evil.

I too was stuck with the same experience for a long time, the mission assigned to me was to witness dawn while on a mountain.

That is kinda obscure i think some kind of hint would be more fun. It causes you to try stuff rather than feel totally lost. With the old numen system you would mabe see the icon of a mountain?

Yeah, same happened to me. I was on starvation for a long time and after complaining I got a few experiences (thankfully). I totally agree with you, I hope they're taking care of this because the feeling is just "being stuck" and can't do anything about it to progress.
Even roaming and actively playing the game, for some players, it's extremely rare to have experiences. Some others just have them popping out all the time, and this makes me think the system is bugged.

Guys, there's already at least two other discussion threads for this. For now, things are working as originally developed and this is getting dev attention to be improved. if you wish to post, use one of the two other threads (and should arguably only be one thread).

HDI--discussion of creating experiences and what the list of experiences are: viewtopic.php?f=42&t=41230
