Odd Master/Slave key behavior

Postby Drevar » Fri Sep 11, 2015 1:55 am

I have 4 round-pole gates all locked and set to use the same master key. Two gates on one claim, 2 on a second claim a screen away. Created a slave key to carry around with me. 3 of the gates work fine from both directions, but one gate only works from a single direction. The side on this one gate (in this case from the outside attempting to go in) where it doesn't work gives an message that I need the Master Key.

Does the direction the gate swings make a difference (would mean there is an actual front and back side)? Or which side of the gate you applied the lock to?

AFAIK slaves should be unable to open from outside (side where the gate swings to open) and not work for copies.

In this case it sounds like you have a lock on only one gate, since with a locks on all of them you should not be able to open them from the outside...

Oddly it did initially work for 3 of the gates and only the one gave the master key error. Now, however, they all indeed only work from the "inside" of the gate. After going off the grid for a while and coming back, all of them had the apparently proper behavior. Perhaps a locally cached data bug?

I did in fact have locks on all 4 gates, as I made 4 locks, intalled 1, and set the other 3 to the first master key before installing on the other 3 gates.

Luckily these are all round-pole gates so I basically just farted on them to destroy and rebuilt all swining the correct way.

So this is resolved, then?

I don't like bringing up old threads but I have another issue with the behavior of slave keys.

Why?

I want the person to be able to get in and out, not trap themselves like when you make a house in Rust without a roof.
I wish to join a SMALL community or a newish player.

My fave tasks are Hunting, Fishing, Mining, Building, Crafting

I like free stuff so please keep it in the claim or I might claim it myself. Fair warning anybody could do it :P

To open from both sides you need a master key.
