Can login to character, but get kicked back to selection scr

I can log into my account, but when I select my character the game flashes the in-game UI for a fraction of a second, then I'm back at the character selection screen.

I can spam click 'play' and the same thing happens every click.

Happens on vanilla client and enders. It does give me the 'spawn at hearthfire' option. I tried removing all objects around my hearthfire.
