Why would building a chicken coop put the straw into the thatching slot first instead of into the straw slot?

I know that the new system for building signs is in place to prevent some signpost fuckery but it'd make sense to be able to put something into a specific slot instead of having to mess around with my inventory and build things into the sign in a certain order because so many items cover various roles, in this case straw being required specifically but being used as thatching material instead.

The other thing that gets me all the time is when I'm making multiple poultices and it uses 5 nettles instead of 3 nettles and 2 taproot...

this isn't really a bug as such, but it feels wonky anyway.

Why would someone posting about a known problem not use the search function before?

Basically the same lisr of possible reasons...

Oh FFS I have to hold everyone's hand for every little thing? Fixed on the dev server, the coop now checks for straw before thatching. Thank you. Goodnight. Locking.
