I've managed to make it work once in around 30 tries or so.

It seems to ignore the shift hold and just place them instead of making the ghost version

lift it, then right click it while it's above your head

That's what I was trying to do, doesn't seem to work properly with barrels on default client

i was shift right clicking, that seems to work with boats but perhaps i was just clicking the boat all this time... my bad, ignore me lmao
